At last the meeting ended
Most of the morning was taken up writing a bid to the Department for Education for funds to provide training for teachers on the new computing national curriculum. There is a significant change to the subject from September 2014 as schools are required to teach "computational thinking, programming and coding". Most teachers, especially in primary schools, have limited experience of doing this so we're hoping to provide training and resources to help teachers with this new requirement. Hope to have the first draft of the bid completed by tomorrow.
There was a welcome break at lunch time for a good 3 hours or more as I met up with an old friend of almost 50 years whom I've hardly seen in the last decade despite us living only 18 miles apart. John and I went to school together, trained as teachers in different parts of the country but ended up teaching in Kent where we've been ever since. John and his wife both took early retirement recently so have been enjoying life much as we have since I retired. I can hardly believe all 3 of us are 60 this year. Believe it or not we had plenty to talk about and we're not going to leave it so long the next time.
After the pleasures of lunch and a long lunch at that, it was off to a Governors meeting at the primary school where I'm a governor. Started at 4.00pm and was supposed to last 2 hours but went on an additional 40 minutes. I thought I was not going to get the opportunity for a blip today, but the compostion of the table caught my eye, seeming symbolic of the feeling of people as the meeting ended. Overall though it was a positive meeting but life in schools is so demanding and pressurised that each day can be like a rollercoaster. Pleased to be well out of it.
