Gone Fishin'

Today I made an outing at lunch on the mountain bike along the Naviglio del Paderno or what is called also the Ecomuseo Adda di Leonardo for Leonardo Da Vinci's studies on hydraulics along the Adda River here.

Milano has an extended canal system that is still partly functional and connects a good part of the territory. They were used in the old days for transporting commercial merchandise. One explanation is that Milan is basically swamp land that was reclaimed. In the early days, the city burnt down several times due to manufacturing bricks close to the city center. So the canals were implemented to move the bricks out of town and to have easy transport. boh.... Here's the Wiki on it. Very little written in English... sorry.

For sure Leonardo spent many years in Vaprio D'Adda studying civil engineering and hydraulics and is given credit for the canal system.

Today there are several Edison hydro-electric stations along this portion of the river and canal. They are works of 20th century art... and along a very pretty water corridor.

A bunch more on Flickr.
