Cakes
charred remains
of regal distraction
king alfred's cakes
A consequence of a leave year that ends in March is using up those odd days that have been saved for a rainy day.
Today was indeed a rainy day, so I just went for a short walk down to Willy Wood to see what the spring was bringing forth. While the first few Wood Anenomes were prettier, it was this nice crop of Daldinia concentrica, also known as King Alfred's Cake, Cramp Balls and Coal Fungus, that caught my eye.
Good for lighting fires, but not for eating. Just like Alfred's cakes.
