Hiding in the Bushes

We have a bird feeder hanging from a Japanese Maple which is perfect for the sparrows, house finches, Carolina Chickadees, and other small birds. The larger birds will gather on the ground just below the feeder and eat anything that drops down.

I've been wanting to get a close up ground shot of a cardinal and decided to hide in a cluster of bushes next to the Japanese maple. After laying still for ten minutes, the sparrows and house finches showed up. About three minutes later, this Cardinal showed up. I let him eat for about 2 minutes, slowly lowered my camera, focused, and got exactly three shots before he took off. I'm happy I got away with this shot. However, the Cardinal did not seem to like my sneaky approach... : ))

On a side note, Washington, DC is under another winter storm warning with the potential of 5 - 12" of snow late Sunday into Monday. So maybe I'll be able to get a couple of nice snow shots on Monday...

Thanks for visiting and hope you are having an enjoyable weekend.
