Newly acquired

A new acquisition to our family history archives, a page from the Illustrated London News dated 20th February 1942.
My late father was a member of the Army Film & Photographic Unit, assigned at the time to the 8th Army during their attack on Rommel in the Western Desert.
The captions under the photographs read as follows:

Top: Here is one of the hundreds of action pictures taken by the sergeants of the AFPU during the Eighth Army's triumphant attack on Rommel and subsequent advance. Infantry, the dust swirlinground them, are moving forward. They are opening up with rifle and Bren gun, using a knocked out enemy tank as their cover.

Bottom - Left: Knocked out tanks often yield rations. Hence the posture of the sergeant photographer seen above.

Bottom - Centre: These four cheery sergeant cameramen accompanied the Eighth Army's advance. Three of them are Londoners and one a Liverpudlian. (My father is back centre)

Bottom - Right: This sergeant cameraman has found two flagons of Chianti to help out the water rations.

I love it when research ( thanks to my niece in London) brings to light these snippets for one's family tree.
