Nesting
As the two of us walked out onto the patio this afternoon to just sit and enjoy the day, we noticed some activity on the rusty bell ornament that hangs from one of the patio deck beams. I turned to look at Mr. Fun and said, "Really?"
I could hardly believe that this little feathered mother-to-be would select such a place. Then I thought about it and the difficulty, no make that impossibility, of a cat getting to that nest and realized the reason for the choice. So we watched this little wonder with wings flit in and then out of that itty-bitty cup of a nest with particles of fuzzy in her beak. One of the close-up photos looks as if she has wrapped the nest in spider webs, but I rather doubt that. It must be fine threads or hair that we are seeing.
In the five-plus years I've been blipping, never have we enjoyed a hummingbird nest in our back yard. At the moment the nest is empty, but we predict an egg or eggs are soon expected.
So we're a little excited and more will be posted here.
Good night from Southern California,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
P.S. Mr. Fun took this photo with the camera our daughter and son-in-law gave me/us for Christmas.
