The Colosseum

No first time visit to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican ( done it yesterday!) , the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill and of course ...the Colosseum. We were told Romans with their infinite leisure only required two things. Bread and the Games. And these must have been the most the most horrendous, depraved and horrifically inventive entertainment in history. This building was so well designed and it included a system of crowd management that allowed vast number of people to arrive and exit in an incredible short time. The entertainment is well documented and it was pretty awful and that's an understatement.
