Great Crested Grebe

Back to the lake this afternoon, hoping to see the Wagtails, but instead was very pleased to see this Great Crested Grebe. It was quite a distance away and was constantly diving for fish so I was lucky to get this capture, which has been cropped I hasten to add.
Apparently they lose their head adornments during the winter and then the crest grows back in the breeding season, this one has grown back. When they are hatched the babies hitch a ride on their parents back, so this will be something to look for in the coming weeks.
