Royal Hospital Chelsea
This is the home of the Chelsea Pensioners.
Inspired by Le French with their Hotel les Invalides, Charles II founded this safe refuge for his war wounded and needy soldiers as they returned from battle (that's apparently the original meaning of the word 'hospital' - safe refuge)
Today over 400 retired men (and since 2009, three ladies) from the armed forces live here, receiving accommodation, all food (amazing dining room!) and health care. As soon as they arrive, they are kitted out for their famous red uniforms.
You can see Battersea power station in the background and in case you are wondering, the gold dude is Charles II.
