Sisters are doing it for themselves!

A quick shot of my 2 neighbours and friends,Di and Inge, who turned up today delivering me some of the wood they have just cut for me.

This year, we are sharing energy - Di & Inge learned how to cut the peat for the first time, and are getting a supply of the stuff; I am also getting some of their wood.
In between all this activity, we also share wine, food, wine, stories, wine and laughs galore.

This photo has Inge slightly out of focus, because she is laughing so much - mostly at how dirty her mate is. The dull lighting does not help you appreciate how dirty-faced an angel she is.

They are the kindest, most considerate folk it has been my pleasure to call 'friends'. They hear you're ill? Up they turn with fresh eggs, newly baked bread, or on this occasion a trailer full of wood for the stove! I don't want you to think that they are Mother Theresa and her sister (does she have a sister? What do you call a nun's sister? Sister Sister? Wasn't that the name of a band - no, Twisted Sister, you fool. Oh god, the fever has got to me) Both of them have a very wicked sense of humour, and maybe that is why we get on so well. When I express how amazed I am that they can do all they do, while I seem to run around like a headless chicken, they are very quick to tell me - "Beth dear, you aren't retired yet.!" Bless - they don't point out my laziness.....

And as for cooking - they are the best cooks/bakers on the West Coast. When they ran a B&B (& evening meal) from their old croft house, they never had to advertise - Taste of Scotland, and all that. Now that they have retired, people like me get the chance to help them keep their hand in.
It's a tough life, but someone has to do it.

And their garden is breathtaking; something to aspire to.

Oh and they have been known, when I ask them if they would like to come for a meal, or something at the weekend, to say that they can't because they are going down to Edinburgh for a protest march.
So, to sum up? Here's the check list:
gourmet, gardening, chain-sawing, peat-cutting, wine-pouring, politically-protesting, practical, helpful, riproaringly-funny FRIENDS.
If I've missed something, let me know.
