Florida Swamp Cypress...

This is one of my favourite trees in Manchester. It's a long way from home. It's natural habitat is the Everglades of Southern Florida, a Swamp Cypress. It's a coniferous tree but it loses it's needles in the winter. In spite of being used to the warm climate of Florida it does remarkably well on this patch of open land in Hulme just south of the city centre. I think it used to be on the campus of a demolished school. The area is gradually being redeveloped but in the meanwhile it's surrounded by this fence to protect it from some of the locals....
