Cash Cow

Phrases that generally don't actually mean what the sum of their parts convey:

"I don't want to be rude but..."
"I'm not a racist but..."
"It's not you, it's me."
"The cheque's in the post."
"We are happy to acknowledge our error."
"Apologies for any inconvenience."
"Mr Trump, your application has been unsuccessful."
"Yeah, it's been too long, we really must get together."
"Our staff will be happy to help."

Just an observation. Also, "Your tickets will be delivered to..." Completely forgot about this aspect of our trip to the rugby on Saturday amidst the scene of Scots' jubilation.

Tickets ordered on the Wednesday night, which I knew was cutting it fine for them being delivered, but the email confirmation was nicely adamant about them being delivered, and there was no information to the contrary throughout the ordering process.

Thursday, no tickets expected, that would have been ridiculous.

Friday, no tickets, well, the postal service 'aint what it used to be.

Saturday. Erm. No tickets. Ticket centre phoneline only open Monday to Friday, what the...? I try it anyway and a friendly person answers. Ah yes, cut off for delivery was ordering by 2pm on Wednesday, meaning we were about 6 hours late, so we'll have to go to Murrayfield to pick up the tickets first. Is it asking too much to expect an online ordering system, designed by its very nature to be an aid to the efficaciousness and practicality of the whole process, to inform you at some point that you're going to need to pick up your tickets? Or at the very least not to tell you, in big black letters, that your tickets WILL be delivered? Hmmm?

Honesty, integrity, common sense, a genuine sense of setting out to make life easier for other people you come across no matter in what arena and function. I need a catchy slogan for all of that. "Holding the Door", a metaphoric representation of the good grace and common courtesy that's needed a little bit more these days.
