DDW's March Vocabulary Challenge Day 9 : Fuliginous = Sooty or smoky

Last night, the old oil guzzling, inefficient, noisy and smelly Rayburn stove stopped working. It normally sits there, grumbling away, drinking vast quantities of oil in return for giving us a vaguely warm house.
It became ominously quiet last night and refused to re-start. The house quickly cooled down and I decided to try and sort it in the morning.
I am not qualified to work on oil fired boilers, so wouldn't work on a customer's boiler, but there is an idiot's guide to servicing it in the user manual, so I thought I would give it a go.
3 hours and a fair bit of swearing later, and with the hoover full of dust, soot and other debris, I had the thing back together again. To my utter amazement, it fired up. We have heating again. I don't think it has been serviced in years and there were one or two things which I sorted along the way. I am really pleased. And since today's blip challenge is sooty, this blast tube (part of the burner assembly) fitted the bill remarkably well.

This afternoon was spent much more pleasantly with my beautiful girl walking Sigyn the Inquisitive, Talisker the Bewildered and Evie the Wonderdog over the top of the Black Craig and north along the cliff tops on the west coast of the island. The waves were huge, and we all returned home to my folk's house covered in salty sea spray.
Dinner was eaten, to the accompaniment of mirth and merriment before HV and I headed home to our warming house.

Today, has been a good (if a little sooty) day
