Wirtgen W2000

Bit of a grey day today so decided to blip this monster which arrived in the street. The local council are about to resurface our road. So some of the heavy plant and machinery arrived in preparation for tomorrows road closure.

This is a Wirtgen W2000 cold planer. It has 162 cutting teeth in the grey box between the two sets of tracks.

It’s 6 cylinder 581 hp Caterpillar 15.2 litre engine allows it to eat a strip of road surface up to 6 ft 6 in wide and to a depth of 12.6 in at a speed of 3.1 mph. When fully setup for work with all its tanks topped off it weighs in at just over 32 tones.

Don’t think this thing will take too long to devour the section of road they are replacing. It’s little brother is round the corner ready to do any fiddly bits and also any footpaths they decide to replace.

Tried to find a new price for it but drew a blank, I did however find a couple of second hand ones in the £70,000 to £130,000 price range.

Wonder if the delivery man left the keys under the sun visor.
