I enjoy making jams and other "preserves" and thought I'd have a go at making some marmalade this year. I found a recipe for dark chunky marmalade which seemed to be just what I wanted. It involves boiling the oranges and a couple of lemons, scraping out the flesh and pips and then chopping the peel - much easier than trying to chop it uncooked as I did last time I tried to make some. This is stage one, boiling the fruit.

This evening I'm off to see Oh What a Lovely War which has been revived at the theatre in Stratford. Unfortunately Ant who organised the excursion has done something to her back - she has no idea what - which means she feels she won't be able to sit for two and a half hours plus half an hour's travel each way so she's not coming which is a real disappointment for her
