Comma

I saw this Comma (Polygonia c-album) in the garden today. They are now quite common, having suffered quite a decline in the 20th century. They get their name from a white "comma" shaped marked on the underwing. The caterpillar feeds on common nettles, of which there are many around the field behind our garden.

I also saw a Brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni, which has probably hibernated over the winter.
