24 Hours in Athens

My roommate and I headed up north towards Athens late Friday night, having a late night dinner at a Waffle House after most places close. I think this was my longest continuos drive to date but despite the darkness, it didn?t feel like such.
We arrived later than planned but not too late to speak to some old friends on campus by phone and meet up with a close friend from high school who toured us through his dorm building (which by the way is protected by a redundant security system involving a hand print scanner and a ~9 digit code).
I met new friends at a college dorm through a lazy combination of childhood recess games and talk about college life. We talked for as long as our eyes could stay open, slept in late, and had a lunch at a nice dining hall on campus. We then toured around campus with friends as around us, tailgaters and athenians flooded the streets and set up camp. And like clock work, once darkness struck, the streets got even more crowded. The college band and drum-line worked their magic through the square beside the 92,000 seat stadium to excite the crowd.
All the pomp and circumstance was incredible.
It?s a bit of a shame we lost but the experience was extraordinary.
