Women's Day

This may not be the greatest picture but there is a story behind.
Today was another beautiful day in Provence. Temperature went above 20ºC. Before leaving, I decided to take my Mum to a café in Fontvieille. We sat outside in the sun. Then I left for a short while to get my Blip of the day.
On the nearby village square, I was intrigued by this bronze statue. It looked a bit like the Statue of Liberty. By reading on the stand, it says it was in honor to the French Revolution. You can see the date: 1789.
So I thought this was a good Blip for today. First, because it happened to be Women's Day and then because of the statue to freedom. Liberté is a feminine word in French. But it also recalls that during the French Revolution women became equal to men. I thought it was also interesting to have this statue near the church. The Papal shield clearly shows above the gate. The Revolution was determinant to separate the power of the church from the state.
So all in all, this photo conveys a symbolic image that was definitively appropriate for today.
