Weird day. its Raisin weekend in st andies, which is all about academic families and people play games and get pretty drunk. unfortunately i had fourth year parents last year so i didnt have any family this year. next year i get kids :) but anyway. id literally just walked out the house mid afternoon and up the street when i see this drunk guy stumble out on the road and run over by a mini. the mini skids to a hault and the driver - another student jumps out the car in absolute shock. the hit guy is lying in the road, fairly unresponsive. ambulances are called and police come and the crowd gets bigger and bigger. as it was apparant it was useless me standing there i rushed back home to tell my housemates. it really freaked me out! my friend went out after calming me down to see what was going on, turns out because the guy was so drunk it had 'softened the blow' and he was to the hospital but would probably be fine. this makes me so angry. obviously if something more serious had happened i would have just felt awful, but the fact he had become so drunk he had put himself in such a situation really annoyed me. we get emails warning us to look after ourselves before this weekend but clearly people think they are invincible. i just feel so bad for the driver now, as there was nothing he could have done, and if he had seriously harmed him, he would have had to live with that guilt. i, even at the age of 19, think that our culture has something seriously wrong with it when people can get so drunk that they no longer have control of their actions and are putting their lives in danger. but i dont think people will ever learn.
