A Fun Night

This is the marquee of the Can Can Theater in Seattle which is down by Pike Place Market. Mark and Derek took Margie and me there tonight and I must say it was a first for me. It’s a quirky, subterranean venue, funky, extremely small but full of surprises, not the least of which is a smashing show called Can Can Castaways, a mixture of cabaret, burlesque and spectacular dancing (on a postage stamp size stage). There are six cast members, 3 women and 3 men, all extremely talented. The music is just plain fun – “Puttin’ on the Ritz” plus lots of great stuff from the Roaring 20s, complete with fringe dresses for the ladies and top hat and tails for the men.

The performers draw various members of the audience into the show too, and that’s fun, providing you’re not one of the ones they target. I was and it was a little unsettling. Fortunately, they didn’t drag me up on the stage or anything, but I was definitely singled out for some fun by the M.C. as were Mark and Derek. Margie managed to escape notice. I thought it was a great show and I enjoyed it immensely – I’d love to see it again, that is if I could stay unnoticed in the corner.
