Ah! Bistro
To mark World Book Day, I bring you my favourite bookseller. Spokes.
As a sort of coda to last Saturday's blip, Spokes rang me this afternoon and enquired whether I fancied meeting up after work for a bite to eat in the new Everyman Bistro and, naturally, I leapt at the suggestion!
I think we were both a little trepidatious as the old Bistro was such a well-loved Liverpool eatery and meeting place - would we take the new-look version to our hearts? We need not have worried - we were both instant converts!
The new Bistro shares its look with the rest of the theatre building, a beautiful blend of wood, brick and concrete which really appeals to me. We explored as much of the building as we were allowed to but couldn't peep into the auditorium as there were technical rehearsals going on for 'Twelfth Night' which opens on Saturday. I can't wait for the 27th of this month when Spokes and I will be in the audience!
Anyway, back to the Bistro... We had a very fine evening and dined on a delicious, walnutty, butternut squash risotto, tomato and parmesan salad and, rather naughtily, a side order of cheesy mashed potato with roasted garlic! After which it would have been remiss not to sample the dessert menu so we each had some sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Heaven!
I think I can safely say that we'll be eating there again.
Oh, and I absolutely love the lamps which are all on pulleys so that they can be dragged down closer to your table or pushed up and away from it. We experimented, of course!
PS On a World Book Day theme, here's a great Liverpool band with a book-related ditty. And here's the same song performed by its co-author and another classic Liverpool beat group!
