DRYING FEATHERS IN THE BREEZE

We ended up at the fishing jetty again thinking wouldn’t be as crowded because it had rained most of the day. The pelicans watched the fishermen with keen eyes – they knew the minute someone had a fish on the line, just by the guy’s actions. The pelicans knew there was a chance the fisherman might toss the catch back in, and they were right there to grab it. If a pelican wanted a rest from the action, they hopped onto a rock and spread their wings to dry their feathers in the breeze. Notice the hook at the end of its bill - great for catching fish!

For a few other pictures of our day:
A picture of a different type of pelican (all brown). Easier to see the hook at the end of the bill on this one.

Dolphins were also in the channel. They weren’t arching very far out of the water to breathe, but the crowd enjoyed them just the same.

Early in the morning I checked the yard around the house for a potential emergency blip since rain was predicted. Imagine my surprise to look up into the highest tree to find four turkey vultures (buzzards) looking back at me!
