Celebrations

Today was a big day for The Leprosy Mission Scotland. We were marking our 140th anniversary of support for people affected by leprosy with a tea party with dignitaries, volunteers and a few staff members too. Here are the Right Reverend Lorna Hood, the current Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, and Reverend Graham Brown, the current Moderator of the General Assembly of the United Free Church of Scotland cutting our beautiful cake. The cake had been made by one of our volunteers, Rosalind Smith, and the two bits I had (one fruit, one chocolate) were very good, though I didn't get to try the Madeira bit.

Rather entertaining in a very small world way is the fact that Lorna and Graham went to the same primary and secondary schools in Kilmarnock, and when they were students, she gave him and some other folk a lift to Glasgow each morning for uni. They hadn't seen each other since then, so had a good laugh catching up. She remembered saving her pennies for The Leprosy Mission when in Sunday School, so my colleague Stuart made sure she had a wee tub to take away with her. We know Graham well, his wife Christine has a regular volunteer in our office for 10 years, so he already has a ready supply of all our resources! It was a lovely afternoon, and seemed to be enjoyed by all.
