David v/s Goliath

As I recently learned the pharmacy of 'Van der Pigge' I recently shot is a not only monument, there is an even nicer story to it...

Just imagine being a small shop in 1923 and being forced to sell your building because a - for that era - mega department store wants to build its new store exactly where you and some 20 other fellow middle class companies have been since ages.

It's like David against Goliath, but this David refused to make way at any cost.

The end result is that the V&D department store had to go back to the drawing table and design a new building around the small pharmacy.

Once you know this story it's super nice to see this 'doll house' now encapsulated by the huge V&D building

I just love it when the underdog wins ;-))
