Loophole.

October 1999. So, here's the state of gay comics right around this time. You had the amazing Dykes to Watch Out For - which is great but very heavy on the lesbian drama; you had The Mostly Unfabulous Life of Ethan Greene, which was really funny but then collapsed under its own pretentiousness. And then you had a hodgepodge of stuff that was either so overwrought you couldn't stand it (AIDS!) or nothing but shiny twinks running around fucking each other. Both of these things are alive and well in my comic strip, of course, but I was absolutely dedicated to the idea that Tad was no saint - he was not going to be the long suffering main character where only good things happened to him, or people did nothing but support him like so many other strips. He was kind of an asshole - and he did stupid things.

Roger here is named after my college friend, who I don't think I kissed but might have - I kissed a lot of guys back then. ;)

(Oh gross, I just realized that I named the fraternity Phi Alpha Gamma - or "FAG" - wow, wasn't that clever of me, ugh)
