Burlington Bay
Earlier today, Kevin emailed photos of the field of crocuses blooming in the grassy centre of the expansive traffic roundabout in our Amsterdam neighbourhood.
This contrasting view from Canada is of Burlington Bay as seen from the driveway to the Burlington Golf and Country Club where I was curling today. It was incredibly bright from my vantage point with sunlight bouncing off the snowy expanse of the bay. Due to the ice and snow cover, it was impossible to tell where the shore ended and the lake began. In fact, when it is flowing freely, the water forms a little inlet in between the two points in the foreground and the water's edge would be only a few feet from where I was standing.
The Skyway Bridge in the distance is where boats enter the harbour from Lake Ontario. The bay is home to a normally busy port, the largest Canadian port in the Great Lakes, which handles more than 18 million tonnes of cargo annually. However, nearing a 35 year ice-cover record, currently with 91% of the Great Lakes frozen, there certainly wasn't any freight moving today.
