Henry Wood Hall

The Henry Wood Hall is the current home of the RSNO (Royal Scottish National Orchestra).

The B-listed, former Trinity Congregational Church was designed by John Honeyman in 1864 and has been home to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra since 1977.

The Hall has been home to not only to the Orchestra but the RSNO Chorus and RSNO Junior Chorus. Many classic recordings have been produced at Henry Wood Hall by internationally renowned conductors such as Neeme Järvi, Jose Serebrier and Stéphane Denève.

One of the first recordings in the Hall in 1979 was Elgar’s Cello Concerto performed by Ralph Kirshbaum and conducted by Sir Alexander Gibson.

The RSNO will be relocating this summer to a £14m custom built centre at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

The Grade B listed Henry Wood Hall is now up for sale.

Interesting last night on Radio Scotland, the Danish Conductor Thomas Sondergard (RSNO) said that he was a big Mackintosh fan and he loves The Hill House and would like to see the problems with The Willow Tea Rooms sorted out. Maybe he can help with our fundraising plans to develop the Mackintosh Church into a growing arts and performance venue which can be enjoyed by future generations.
