Pancake Day

The expression "Shrove Tuesday" comes from the word shrive, meaning "confess".

Shrove Tuesday is observed by many Christians and is the last day before Lent starts.

Traditionally the Lent period - the run up to Easter - is used for giving up something, and a food choice is popular.

Dairy products in particular.

Pancake Tuesday is born from that tradition. Folks will 'wire in' to drop scones before abstaining for the period.
