The Crooked House

Well today could not have been more different than the days we have had in India not least because of what things cost. I feel I am spending a fortune here when I could get breakfast for 50p there. I keep thinking to myself that I could eat for month on what i just spent on the car wash!!

Yesterday was very special. We left our house in India at 6am and drove past Sona's house (my little Malayalam teacher). They were all there to wave goodbye Sona, her sister Sonia, her mother Elizabeth, their grandmother Mariya and even the father .. there were lots of tears .. the day before I had given them each a present and they all burst into tears then ... I was thinking as I was on the plane of what we have left behind and what we have brought back as our cases seemed surprisingly heavy given that we leave most of our clothes behind. but we do have a lot of electricals.. and I was thinkng in material physical terms then I was struck by how I was different in what I was carrying inside.. all my experiences especially with this wonderful family and all the learning that I have now that I did not have when I arrived in November. I now have all these new characters and alphabet and language .. and how whatever the learning is no one can take that away and how precious that is.. not just the Malayalam but all learning.

So it has been a hectic day today trying to get through the post. get the cars booked in for MOT, deal with things in the house that needed sorting. and Mr A had an app at the dentist and me at the Opticians so we went to Windsor together.. And this is the Crooked House next to the Guild Hall.. the Guild Hall looks more crooked in my photo than the Crooked House!! Both have interesting history. The Crooked House only started to lean when it was restructured with unseasoned timber and the Guildhall was designed by Sir Christopher Wren but when the Borough Council saw the design they did not think that there was enough support for parts of the overhang and insisted on more pillars .. and Wren put in the pillars but left a gap between the top of them and the structure above so they support nothing.. just to make a point!!

And today we marvelled at the clouds although there were none when I took this.. and our ability to move around without sweating all day and fast wifi!!!
