LONG WAY FROM HOME
Hard to believe, the first bird I’ve seen where we’re staying in Florida is a female red-bellied woodpecker – the exact same type we have in our yard in Michigan! Maybe she hopped in the car and rode down with us! I’ve heard her pecking at a tree every morning, but never could spot her until today. She was so high up, if she hadn’t been on the side of the tree, silhouetted against the bright morning sky, I wouldn’t have been able to see her. Unfortunately, the camera focused more on the bark and the needles and less on the bird, but I felt lucky to get a shot. Thank heavens for the zoom!
