Cyril Gibbons Hide Mere Sands Wood
Today I had reason to be down in Lancashire so clickychick and I took the afternoon to visit Mere Sands Wood. This is s a reserve run by the wildlife trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside. It is a lovely little place being mainly five meres set in mixed woodland.
Birds being my main interest I was pleased with the variety we saw which included: Numerous Robins
Bullfinch
Cormorants
Teal
Goldeneye
Tufted Duck
Coot
Moorhen
Canada Geese
Black Headed Gull
Great Crested Grebe
Magpie
I tried various shots of birds but non were very pleasing so I settled for this shot of the hide as I liked the reflection of the trees in the water.
The important part of the day was that during the course of the afternoon and including many long period in hides and on seats I walked 1.25 miles. OK I was using a walking stick but it is progress.
The only downer on the day was the reserve has a reputation for Kingfishers and we didn't see even a flash of colour.
