From the Footbridge

The Wangaratta Railway Station Complex was constructed in 1874 by R Vincent.

It is historically and architecturally significant to the State of Victoria.

Subsequently it is....

A Heritage Listed Location

Part of the complex seen here is the large four-storey brick water supply system.

Its significance being...

It is a substantially intact example of the large railway water towers constructed during the late 19th century to facilitate the operation of the now long gone....

Steam engines.

Today, it remains a lovely reminder of the skill and craftsmanship of the men who constructed it in a bygone era.

Circa 1920 with the top of the water tower in the background to the left.
