Albion Family
After about a month and a half of working on this project in pretty much all of my free time I am so happy to be able to share this with you! These are the 3 Albion coats I made for the Albion sewalong hosted by Colette patterns as a promotion for their new Walden sewing pattern line. (I'm not sure how to input links. Can I do that here in Blipfoto??) I am doing the actual photo shoot of us wearing all the coats on Thursday because the weather was so rainy this morning.
I made all of these mostly out of repurposed materials. I got old canvas pup tents from the military surplus store for the coat shells and I lined Hub's coat in a military surplus wool army blanket. For mine and for Little Princess I did actually buy some quilting cotton fabric in a fun print and hot pink piping. I made bias binding for mine out of the quilting cotton, but I fully lined hers. (As an aside, making bias tape and bias binding seams is a royal PAIN IN THE BEHIND!!) The toggles are made from white tail deer antlers from bucks hunted here in Central Oregon. Hubs and cut them apart and then I sanded and stained them. I attached them using a leather boot lace we had in the junk drawer.
Colette patterns actually does not include a children's version of the pattern so I drafted my own to match the adult version. It wasn't nearly as hard as I expected!
I have so say I am so happy to finally be done sewing these coats! The contest entries are due a week from today so once I get some good pictures after our photo shoot I'll be in the running for the sewing machine of my dreams: a Bernina 380! Wish me luck!
