I Think I Would Prefer Heinz Please...

This gable end painted sign has always made me smile....Bile Beans sound so unappetising.

When you actually investigate further they were a 'medicine' which contained laxatives and anti-flatulance agents (amongst other things) - they were on sale up until the mid 1980s.

This particular sign is in York and was repainted as recently as 2012 - with funds raised following an appeal by York Civic Trust.

I know of a similar sign in Hunslet, Leeds which is very faded.
