Wind beneath my wings!!
Yes, I was driving and yes, I did come to a screaming halt when I saw this magnificent wedge tailed eagle sitting on top of the old dead tree between Griffith and Hay this morning. I actually am not going to apologise because it was just the most surreal experience. Well that's what you do when you're a blipper I've been told. I do encourage you to view the image in the LARGER format.
We were hoping desperately that wedgie would fly off and to our delight he did. Now I'm a real novice when it comes to birds in flight but I do love this image because of the brilliant blue sky and the wonderful launching pad of the old tree beneath him. I have added the image of the Wedge tailed Eagle as I found him, sitting atop the old gum tree!
I have also added an image to my Blipfolio which I thought some of our International Blippers might find interesting. Just after we had seen the eagle we came across "The Long Paddock" in action. This is a common practise in Australia, particularly in drought conditions that we're experiencing at the moment. The cattle are allowed to feed on the green feed that is growing along the side of the road. It was a good feeling to drive at a snails pace and see these wonderful animals finally being able to have a feed at last.
We made it to Renmark late this afternoon and will head down stream tomorrow to arrive in Mannum in time to board the MV Princess for our 4 magical nights on the "Mighty Murray" River. (Only one more sleep)
