Memories
I made this quilt for my mother-in law for Christmas in 2010. I had bought the fabric for the backing in 2007, as I knew she would love it. She loves art deco, and fashion from the '20s, so this was perfect for her.
I had only just started quilting then, and I was too scared to cut the fabric. It's a Liberty lawn and I was terrified of ruining it. It lingered in my sewing cabinet for a couple of years, while I improved my craft and pondered on what to do with it.
In the end I decided that I couldn't cut it, and just used it whole for the backing. I think it was the right decision, and I love how it turned out.
We were clearing through their house last weekend and I found the quilt, still in the Christmas box in which I had wrapped it. My mother-in-law is now in a residential home (along with my father-in-law) and unfortunately Alzheimer's Disease has robbed her of her memories.
I wish I had been brave enough to make the quilt when I first bought the fabric, so that she could have had some enjoyment from it.
