M40 on Friday

No, I wasn't driving!

The culmination of a week full of ups, downs and hard work. 86 miles to Buckinghamshire and the same back in the weather you see, to pick up the woolly babes. My goodness, was it chilly in Bucks!

We started off in sunshine and earlier in the day this tract of the motorway was teaming with Red Kite that swooped and hovered over the road. If you want to see birds of prey... the M40 is second to none!

A borrowed livestock trailer, at a glance, wasn't going to travel the distance and back so, we took my friends version which is solid but looks more as if it were a travelling dog's crate. Modified on site with some reinforced plastic covering and a great deal of binder twine and cable ties, the sheep don't seem to have been phased by their trip. I have been sweating it and will continue to do so for the next week or so.

In theory, I should have picked the ewes up in January but, sold to me as guaranteed in lamb, they had to be scanned. The scanner was late and this was the last date possible to move the sheep,in relative safely.

I'm relieved that they're here now. On opening the back of the trailer in the dark, the girls hopped out, had a pee, and proceeded to munch on the grass in the paddock. Although they seem to be chilled out, the next days will tell. They all carry twins but, if stressed, they may abort.

It was too dark to get a blip of the babes... come back tomorrow!
