Northern Lights: Attempt #2!
The Northern Lights on left of this blip are the ones on the mast of the VLF transmitter at Skelton, the tallest structure in the UK. I see it most days but hadn't realised it transmits low frequency coded orders to submarines!
Anyhow, I'd only just got in last night when the phone rang with a call from #2 Daughter telling us that people in Edinburgh were seeing the Aurora Borealis. It was after 10pm but we were quite happy to gather up our gear and go off out into the darkest countryside we could find.
There were stars in every direction but north! The sky was cloudy in that direction and all we could see were the lights from the mast and the city. The gap in the cloud showed a bluish green colour, but no sign of the Aurora Borealis.
If it's clear, we'll try again tomorrow night. I'd love to see them!
