Malo Cross

Richard and I enjoyed a walk along the Tabular Hills of the North York Moors and part of the Old Wives Way (hope this is not a reference to me!) to Blakey Topping and passing Malo Cross.

The cross sits at the foot of Whinny Nab (I love this name) and has the initials RE and K etched into the stone. This stands for Richard Egerton Knight who used it as a boundary stone in the fifteenth century.

It apparently disappeared in the nineteenth century and was found in a garden in Pickering in 1924 before being reinstated to its original position. Goodness knows how it was moved in the first place!
