Rhinopetalum

Or Fritillaria stenanthera. Russian botanists classify a small number of Fritillaria in a seperate genus, Rhinopetalum. The Rhinopetalum fritillarias are distinguished by a very deeply indented nectary which appears as a "noselike" (hence the name) protrusion on the reverse ("outside") most easily seen on the flower at the very bottom of today's picture.

The whole plant is about 25cm high and is grown in well drained compost in a pot under cold glass, kept dry in summer (and yes, I raised these from seed sown around the Millennium, they took five years to grow to flowering size.)
