Time to reproduce
This beautiful fungus - Chondrostereum purpureum is obviously now trying to produce spores and spread to new hosts. The weather is purrrfect if you're a fungal spore and wants to infect a new tree. :-)
Chondrostereum causes the "Silver Leaf disease" e. g. on fruit trees (the leaves look silvery because the epidermis gets loosened from the rest of the leaf tissue and is filled with air). This specimen was found on an apple tree. The same fungus is also used as a biological control agent to combat "unwanted, weedy trees" in forest production. Everything has at least two sides. :-)
