A Peep Thru the Pinhole

Oh Doctor Beeching

Those of us in the UK, and of a 'certain age', will remember the infamous "Beeching Axe" of 1966, which led to much of Britain's rural rail infrastructure being discontinued and, in most cases, dismantled. One of those routes was the Severn Valley Railway (SVR), which is now active as a tourist route running steam locomotives, and managed by skilled volunteers. However, one branch leading off the SVR to the town of Tenbury was dismantled, and a large extent turned into a walking/cycling track. The bridge supports in the photo, which span the River Severn, remain as a poignant reminder of the 'vandalism' which took away the river crossing, and the Tenbury line.
