Carnival!

Standing yesterday on the orla or front of Copacabana beach for the last time at the end of their four week trip.

Bb: It's a pity we never made it onto the beach, there's a real holiday feel today!
Dd: I know I don't like the sun, but wouldn't it be lovely to sit in this for just a little while and soak it in. A week of doing nothing would be great!
Bb (looking at his watch): Come on, Marcio will be waiting with the car and the traffic to the airport's going to be heavy today.

They start to cross the road away from the shore and reach the central reservation.

Bb (wondering out loud): Is it mad to think about staying longer?
Dd: Not at all, but can we still do that...change the flights and all that? Have you anything on in Barcelona next week?
Bb: I don't know about the flights. We've haven't checked in yet and there's still three hours before take-off...we'd need to check. My diary's clear next week.
Dd: Well, we'd better find out quickly and pay Marcio off, if we have to.

They side step into La Maison restaurant which has decent wifi. Both mini iPads are quickly in use.

Dd: I'll check airbnb to see if we can get a room somewhere.
Bb: Iberia seems to be letting me in....(minutes pass with some intense tapping of the screen)...that's it done, another ten days! Got anything there?
Dd: There's a couple that look quite nice. You'd better phone Marcio!
Bb (takes out mobile and speaks in Portuguese): Hi, Marcio! Everything ok?....Fantastic. Are you in front of the flat?...No?...It was today....No, not tomorrow....(laughs) Don't worry, because we've decided not to go today...yes, later on...I'll phone you when we need you.
Dd: What's he saying?
Bb: Marcio? He's a bit of a mind reader, that one!

Footnote: So we're staying on determined to have some relaxing days doing holiday things and enjoying Carnival. Our studio was already let out so we've treated ourselves to a small local hotel with a pool on the roof where we can sit and read and swim far above the crowds before plunging down into them wearing our Carnival goodies above!
