Elliott's Greengrocer's, Chorlton...

In the past all fruit and vegetables were sold from local greengrocer's. The owners would take a great deal of pride in arranging their display of produce to tempt in customers. Then the big supermarkets took over and everything was wrapped in sanitised plastic and cling film. How dull.... I'm not sure when the pendulum started to swing back to displaying fruit and veg of the street? I think it started in Asian parts of the town where the greengrocer's reintroduced the practice from the Indian subcontinent. Now it's pretty much everywhere. I like to see a nice display on the pavement outside a shop. This one is Elliott's, one of the many independent businesses in Chorlton in Manchester....
