The Dream Team

Left to right: Gemma, me, Rob.

Along with Gemma and Rob, I run Keele University's Postcolonial Society. The society exists to promote and engage the vibrant research culture at Keele with postcolonial issues. It aims to draw scholars into inter- and cross-disciplinary dialogue through seminars, presentations, film screenings, reading groups and other academic activities. We usually aim to meet once a month.

Today, the society met for a screening of Beddegama, a Sinhala movie with English subtitles - a translated version of Leonard Woolf's novel The Village in the Jungle, set in Sri Lanka during the period of British colonization.

A fascinating meet; apologies for the garish flash and poor picture quality!

A quick note: I used to teach Gemma; probably the most intelligent student I have ever met. So, so proud of what she is doing now: undertaking a PhD in her chosen topic. She will go far.
