Colourful Character

Some days seem endless, then you meet someone who starts a conversation and you feel you could sit and listen forever....(if only language was not a barrier)

An evening of entertaining and showing someone around the less touristic areas of Dubai followed by a fabulous meal at the heritage village and an abra ride on the creek.......

Thats where we met this happy chappy all wrapped up against the cool night air!!

He was from Bangladesh and been an abra driver on the creek for the past 12 years. Every three years he gets to go home again and spend time with his family. He had been taught the important landmarks along the creekside that needed to be pointed out to tourists....so made sure we missed none of them!!!

In halted English he tried so hard to share something more of what his life in Dubai had been like, how developed the creekside had become and what cargoes were being traded back and forth on the several dhows that were moored on the quayside......what other tales he had to tell I could only guess at!

We're looking here at a piece of living history!
