DOUBLE BUBBLE GUM BALLS

How long has this dispenser of sweets,
Been standing just inside the entry of Mi Tierra restaurant?
I’ve never noticed it,
Yet, the globe’s sticky surface tells me,
The bubble-headed machine’s been here awhile.

How many gum balls do you suppose it takes to fill this beast?
How many quarters have been inserted in that metal opening?
How many hands have turned that clockwise handle?
How many gum balls have dropped down that chute.
