Last one out

I've never had a roommate. While looking for a place to live I share a big drafty house with another fellow. He's been accepted to graduate school and will probably move out in July. I hope to find something permanent by August.

I'm old enough to be my roommate's dad. He doesn't own a car and has an hour commute each day on public transportation. Seems kinda strange but I do worry about him when he's out late on these cold winter nights.

I leave the kitchen light on and wait to hear his footsteps on the creaky stairs.
