London near Aldgate
I went to London again today with a friend. It was a mixture of sunshine and showers, but luckily this was taken during a moment of warming sunshine. I liked this combination of the old and new architecture, which seems to characterise London today.
For those not from London, the gherkin shaped building is 30 St Mary Axe, formerly known as the Swiss Re building and informerly known as The Gherkin - designed by award winning architect Sir Norman Foster, while the other narrower building is 122 Leadenhall Street, known informally as the Cheesegrater due to it's wedge shape, designed by our other famous architect Richard Rogers. It is that peculiar wedge shape in order to comply with laws restricting the view of St Paul's Cathedral.
We had a lovely lunch at Spitalfields market, nowadays a modern urban space of restaurants and shops and hardly a market in sight.
