Crossing the Border
Another trip up Leith Walk on the way to football at Meadowbank. This pub, formerly the Boundary Bar is on the old border between Edinburgh and Leith. Before Edinburgh gobbled up its smaller neighbour in 1920 the two places had separate councils. And licensing laws. Hence the two doors. The Edinburgh side closed at 9:30pm but the Leith side stayed open for another hour, so everyone moved across the bar to keep on drinking. You can still see the signs for Leith (on the left) and Edinburgh (on the right) above the side doors into the pub.
Football was much better this week, after a little adjustment of the sides, with never more than two goals between the teams. We came from behind to win by one goal in the end, and I managed to score a hat-trick, plus a cross into the box that was turned into his own goal by one of the opposing defenders. If it was ice hockey it would have been my goal. A victory for perseverance as the other lot started very well and played some great passing moves to begin with but we stuck at it and while it wasn't always pretty, it proved effective!
